PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS TEACHERS 2022

Christian Ben Aim

Christian is the founding and artistic director of the C&F Ben Aim dance company based in Paris, Le Kremlin-Bicêtre.

For more than twenty years, the Ben Aïm brothers, Christian and François, have developed a rich body of work abounding in poetry and high standards, interlaced with a brotherly bond and singularity.

In the wake of their cross-disciplinary training in dance, physical theatre and circus arts, each one followed their own career as performers. In 1997, the brothers joined forces to create À l’abri du regard des hommes, avant d’aller mourir ailleurs, a hybrid performance in dance and theatre, thus embarking on a partnership that would lead to some twenty original pieces, deeply rooted in their grassroots work while also being produced abroad.

These productions draw their inspiration from various sources such as literature, music and pictorial arts, intimately blending artistic disciplines on the set.

Afuera Dentro

Lets allow our inner and unknown body emerge, our shifted and surprising body. We will try to rediscover a free body, free from all predictions, of will and of predefined forms. Such is the stake!
The workshop will develop around certain principles, such as fluidity, muscular relaxation, dissociation, and sudden energy, in order to build with the group a community of the absurd, both sensitive and always fully in the present.
This research will be based on different pieces from the repertoire of the Christian & François Ben Aïm Dance Company and in particular around the last creation All in Jest.

Manifesto 6:58

Andrea engages in deep encounters between the physical body and the conscious individual self AP&A is recognised for its alternative multi-disciplinary universes that rupture our notions of a sensible humanity. Political yet abstract creations which transform conceptual research into theatrical larger ensemble installations, to be understood as visceral experiences for the spectator.

Andrea has been working with François Richard for over six years. François will lead the rehearsals of the creation “Manifesto 6:58”.

Synopsis:

6.58: Manifesto presents a choreographic tryptic, which critically explores the concept of artifice and artificiality as constructs of our contemporary society. Artificiality as a post-industrial reality that silently filters into our minds and bodies, as we are intertwined amongst technology and machines. Artifice is observed as artificiality’s seduction that wraps our experiences, interactions and notions of the future human. A human that is both artificial and artifice. Five dancers, in conversation with the hegemony of a machine, an opera singer, and a DJ transverse three disarticulated tableaux while experimenting on the notion of flesh and mind, as mediated by external forces.
